A lot of people want to know if they should be on Medi-Cal or a Covered California Premium Assistance Plan. This Chart explains what the income requirements are for each. It was taken from the Covered California Website.
If you are Medi-Cal eligible, then you are not eligible for Covered California Premium Assistance. If you are Medi-Cal Eligible, your options are to get on the Medi-Cal plan or to purchase a regular health plan that is unsubsidized with Covered California Premium Assistance.
Similarly, if you you are eligible for premium assistance you may not select Medi-Cal. Your options are to pay full price for a health plan or accept the Covered California Premium Assistance.
Both Medi-Cal and Covered CA plans can be applied for onCovered CA. However if you have questions about signing up for Medi-Cal or the status of your application you should call your County Health Care Services Office rather than Covered CA.

Alex Pfeifer said... Excellent Question! Your household size depends on your tax status. If you are filing as an individual and your are not being claimed by your parents as a dependent, then your household size is one. If your parents claim you as a dependent, then your household size is three and your income would be combined with your parents income to figure out the Covered California income level. Hope this helps!

John said... Interesting chart. I was surprised that the income eligibility level for larger families (6 members) was so high - over $126,000. Ill bet that is a common reaction.
