Covered California Problems with Website and Help Line

There have been a plethora of Problems with purchasing health insurance through the Covered California Website. Here are the main ones that my clients have encountered: 

Created an Online Account but Forgot the Password
If you can answer your security questions correctly, you will be allowed to select a new password. If you do not correctly answer the questions or have been otherwise locked out of your account, you will have to call in to Customer Service 1-877-453-9198 or go use the Online Chat.

Completed the Application but Cannot Select a Plan
Often times the reason that the applicant cannot select a Covered California Plan is that he/she is eligible for Medi-Cal. You should follow up with Medi-Cal at California Department of Health Care Services. Or if you think you should be eligible for a Covered CA plan you should contact a Certified Covered CA Agent. 

Can't Reach Anyone on Chat or the Help Line
This is the big one. Call volume has been too high for the people at Covered California to handle. Personally, calls have been dropped on me numerous times. When I do get through it's because I waited for about two hours. But the people on the other end are doing the best they can. They have always been able to help with whatever technical issue I have been facing or been able to explain when a fix is coming.

Most issues can be solved if you speak with a Certified Agent such as myself. If you have questions about billing and eligibility please give me a call. there's no wait and I can answer most questions. Thanks for this information. Although it remains terribly frustrating to deal with Covered California (both the website and the phones), it is reassuring to know (1) that even the professional agents can have problems navigating the system, and (2) persistence eventually pays off.
