Covered California recognized that there were a lot of problems with their website which prevented people from being able to complete their applications by the deadline. I personally helped people who could not verify their identity, had their income deleted from their application, were incorrectly being put on Medi-Cal, could not select a health plan, and had browser issues and error codes. In addition to those problems, the phone line and chat functions were not working because of high call volumes. Due to so many people being unable to complete their Covered California application on time, Certified Agents will have until midnight on Sunday, December 21, 2014 to assist consumers with enrollment. This applies to both new and renewing consumers enrolling for coverage effective January 1, 2015.
Even though we now have until December 21 to finish the applications, they should be done as early as possible to order to avoid the inevitable server issues that come with a last minute rush. Completing enrollment after December 15th may delay invoices and proof of enrollment from the health plan the consumer has chosen. We encourage all consumers to make a binder payment when possible to facilitate faster enrollment in their chosen plan.
In order to be eligible for the extension, you will need to assign a service partner. Log on to your Coveredca account and click "Get Help". Then click "Find Local Help". Then click "Find A Certified Insurance Agent." If you would like me to be your agent, search by last name and type in "Pfeifer". Then electronically sign and confirm. I will then be able to assist you in completing the application and advise you in selecting a plan.
